Having forged a highly successful career in manufacturing, Philippa Glover has now launched her own advisory business at Liverpool Science Park (LSP), focused on helping industry to build more sustainable futures for their businesses and their local communities.
Philippa’s extensive industry experience includes senior R&D and product development roles, former managing director at multi award-winning CNC Robotics and member of OMRON’s Industrial Automation UK Leadership Team. She is also a commissioner at Made Smarter, a member of Liverpool City Region Innovation Board and was recently made an honorary senior fellow in automation and innovation at the University of Liverpool and member of NPLs Advanced Manufacturing Programme Expert Group.
Philippa explains the vision for her exciting new venture:
“I love manufacturing – it’s where I have spent my whole career – and I have a particular passion for the impact that manufacturing organisations can have on their local communities and the wider ecosystem.
“Numbers are incredibly important in manufacturing, but they are only one part of the story, and I encourage businesses to take a wider lens view in developing their business and growth plans. This includes taking an ecosystem approach. A strategic perspective that is focused on collaboration, partnerships, and interconnectedness to create value for customers and the wider community – being active in local conversations, engaging with local schools, sharing best practice or promoting a pipeline of new talent.
“Understandably, lots of businesses don’t know what they don’t know and they often don’t know where to begin. It’s important to ask “what problem are you trying to solve?” and find solutions to that problem, but it’s easy to be too scattergun and not focus on the real issues at hand.
“I’ve chosen Liverpool Science Park as the home of my first solo venture because of the peer community here. The Manufacturing Technology Centre is on the ground floor and there is a clear network and ecosystem in the heart of the city’s Knowledge Quarter.
“Registering my business here also gives me access to the various benefits and amenities that come with being a Sciontec customer and I feel there’s lots I can do to add value to my new community.
“As my fledgling business grows, I am looking forward to working with new and existing contacts around the UK, supporting them at an executive and non-executive level, nurturing the development of thriving ecosystems. Being here will also help me to explore my other passion around mentoring and coaching – helping people to find and celebrate their own strengths and hopefully having a positive impact on the future.”
