Two members of our Sciontec community recently swapped Liverpool Science Park for the stage, as they performed in the north west amateur premier of Les Misérables (Les Mis).
Elizabeth Farrington, Senior Marketing Manager at Sciontec and Sam Eggins, Senior Packaging Design Specialist at Elida Beauty – one of Sciontec’s customers based within Liverpool Science Park – performed to sell-out audiences at the Liverpool Empire theatre, between 3rd and 5th July.
The show, a collaboration between BOST Musicals, Liverpool Empire Creative Learning, Stockport’s Romiley Operatic Society and Wrexham-based Tip Top Productions, was part of Cameron Macintosh and Music Theatre International’s special Les Mis 40th anniversary celebrations ‘Let the People Sing!’ initiative, which opened up the chance for amateur organisations to stage the musical for the first time.
Cameron Macintosh, Producer of Les Misérables, said:
“The success of this much-loved musical was famously made by the public – not the early critics – so what better way to enjoy this unprecedented event, than Let the People Sing!”
Boublil and Schönberg’s iconic, multi-award-winning story was presented in an original theatrical production which had support and guidance from Les Mis’s West End and international associate teams.
Casting for the production took place almost 12 months ago via open auditions, with hundreds of hopefuls keen to take part. More than 100 performers were selected and split across two casts, along with talented musicians, set builders, costumiers, and creative teams. Rehearsals began in February and just five months later, both casts took to the stage, performing to over 9,500 people in the space of just three days.
Reflecting on her involvement, Elizabeth Farrington explained:
“It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and an experience that I will never forget.
“Having the opportunity to perform such an iconic musical, alongside an incredibly talented cast and crew from across the Liverpool City Region and beyond, was a dream come true, and the feedback we’ve received from everyone who came to watch (including a big group of Sciontec colleagues!) was very rewarding.”
Sam Eggins added:
“I had the best time sharing the Empire theatre stage with such a talented team, friends were made and fun experiences had throughout the five month process. I also appreciate the warm and supportive nature of the Liverpool audiences.
“I believe this show really conveyed the amazing talent within the local AmDram community, reflected by the standing ovations after each performance – well done to all involved!”
