Running enthusiast Nancy Butler joins the Sciontec Liverpool Finance Team.
Liverpool Science Park’s owners, Sciontec Liverpool (Sciontec), have recently recruited an Assistant Accountant to help manage the financial aspects of their growing portfolio.
We caught up with Nancy to see how her first two weeks have gone so far and to find out a bit more about our latest talented recruit:
Q) Firstly, tell us a bit about your background
A) From 2015 to 2019, I studied Accounting and Finance at the University of Derby which included a Year in Industry placement within the automotive sector. I then completed a two-year graduate role within management finance at a recycling organisation, as well as studying towards my Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) accreditation.
Q) What then attracted you to work for Sciontec?
A) As well as seeing a lot of fast-paced developments being undertaken within the wider Liverpool City Region, Sciontec itself stood out to me as an exciting company to work for. Originally from North Wales, I will shortly be moving to Liverpool to fulfil my new position at Sciontec and am eager to get more involved within the dynamic science and technology sectors which are at the core of Sciontec’s business activity.
Q) How does your role fit within the rest of our team?
A) As an Assistant Accountant, I will be working closely with senior colleagues including Sciontec’s Acting Finance Director and Liverpool Science Park’s Senior Finance Manager but am also looking forward to working alongside and assisting other departments within the wider organisation.
Q) What type of work will you be undertaking within your new role?
A) I have already begun working on Sciontec transactional matters, involving management accounts, month end procedures and undertaking a service charge review within Liverpool Science Park. I also hope to be able to continue completing modules for my CIMA qualification, which will benefit both myself and the business.
Q) Has the pandemic impacted your career?
A) I have been working remotely so far having started my new role with Sciontec during lockdown, although I do already feel like a valued member of the team. Having seen Liverpool’s response to the pandemic and its ongoing investment in health innovation and digital technology initiatives, I am excited to be working within a company who is directly contributing to the development of these sectors.
Q) What are your plans for the future?
A) I would love to progress further within this role and establish a long-lasting career within Sciontec. As the Sciontec portfolio itself expands, I envisage there being additional opportunities to work on further large-scale developments and cutting-edge projects.
Q) And finally, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A) I am a keen runner and have completed several half marathons in the past. During lockdown I have also spent a lot of time out walking and will shortly be able to enjoy exploring Liverpool’s arts and culture scene. I have always been quite artistic and enjoy drawing and sketching in my spare time.
