Genetix trebles in size at CENTRAL TECH in under 6 months

Back

HealthTech SME, Genetix, has significantly expanded both its workspace footprint and employee headcount, since moving into CENTRAL TECH in August 2025.

Genetix is a new entrepreneurial spinout which supports the increasingly important area of housing disrepair.

In England, around 2 million people live in homes with significant damp and mould, which is not merely a building defect, but a public health issue, with potentially serious consequences for immunocompromised occupants.

Barnaby Poulton, Chief Science Officer, at Genetix, explained:

“Since the introduction of Awaab’s Law in October last year, housing providers carry enhanced legal duties to identify, investigate, and remediate damp and mould promptly and effectively.

“Genetix was established to support tenants and their lawyers to better understand the risks mould presents and to provide clearer evidence to ensure that the least advantaged in society receive the standard of housing they deserve.

“Over the past few months, we have developed the UK’s most advanced health risk assessment for residential mould, offering a more rigorous approach that introduces measurable data, laboratory-supported findings and clinically informed interpretation, strengthening reporting, risk assessment and supporting defensible outcomes.”

Choosing to locate their main operational hub in Liverpool was no coincidence. Having grown out of an existing Liverpool based company, Genetix is mission driven to support those that need the most help relating to housing disrepair, as well as being centrally located to serve their national client base.

Tony McGee, Operations Director, at Genetix, added:

“We’re so pleased that we chose to move into CENTRAL TECH for our first Liverpool workspace, because the Sciontec team have been able to support us at a time when we have been growing faster than anticipated.

“We started off taking one small office back in August 2025, and have already expanded twice, now occupying 4 private offices within the same innovation centre. It has been so important for us to be supported operationally throughout our huge exponential growth curve, as well benefitting from the dynamic workspace and surrounding innovation community.”

The secret formula to Genetix’s recent success lies in its full end-to-end product, which integrates property specific sampling, environmental science and medical insight. Through gene sequencing the mould found in properties and overlaying occupant health status data, a bespoke ‘chain of custody’ and unique assessment of the level of risk can be determined.

This multidisciplinary approach is delivered by a team of scientists, clinicians, operational staff, distribution managers, and finance officers, working across England and Wales, with new services in Scotland to be launched shortly.

The Genetix team has scaled to three-times its original headcount in under six months, with plans to recruit from within the Liverpool City Region talent pool for various new roles over the coming months.

More imminently, Genetix will be growing their Liverpool presence further, by moving their testing kit assembly and distribution centre into CENTRAL TECH, which will support the ambitious company’s Nottingham-based independent contract laboratories.
